Melodifestivalen 2011 Recap: Last weekend Sweden selected their entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in May in Duesseldorf, Germany. This is no doubt the biggest national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. Sweden's legendary Globen Arena where in 2000 the Eurovision Song Contest was staged, was full under the roof for the great show on Saturday evening but also all the two dress rehearsals on Saturday afternoon and Friday night were completely sold out. The team of Radio International together with our colleagues from oikotimes.com were present at the event and conducted many interviews with the artists, organizers and the Executive producer Christer Bjoerkman. This week's edition of Radio International will be a rather special edition on Melodifestivalen 2011 were you can touch the stars of the night: Eric Saade, Danny Saucedo, The Moniker, Sanna Nielsen, Swingfly, The Playtones, Linda Bengtzing, Nicke Borg, Sara Varga and Brolle.  It has been a very busy show this week and not all interviews could be aired as planned. There will be more in next week's edition of Radio International. After the live transmission was finished oikotimes.tv broadcast live from in front of the stage the interviews done by Eric and JP. Melodifestivalen 2011 Interview with Christer Bjoerkman - Executive Producer of Melodifestivalen 2011: Just in front of the stage and right after the show finished on Saturday the Team of Radio International could get Christer Bjoerkman in front of the microphone to get his reaction to the entire show but also about the winning performance. Listen to details in the interview on the show this week.

 

Melodifestivalen 2011 Interview with Eric Saade - The Winner of  Melodifestivalen 2011. Eric Saade won a head to head race the competiion last Saturday in Stockholm's Globen Arena with the song "Popular" Right after the winning performance of the night Eric Lehmann and JP had the chance to meet the singer briefly for the first reaction after the victory. But also we had the chance to already have an interview with Eric Saade at the Welcome Reception last week Thursday. This week hear the interview right after the winning performance in the Globen Arena and next week the interview with Eric done at the Welcome Reception where he had some more time to chat with Radio International.

Melodifestivalen 2011 Interview with Danny Saucedo: Danny and Eric Saade fought out the battle who of the two is going to get the trophy of the 2011 Melodifestivalen in this head-to-head race. He started of the evening with his partly self-penned song called "In the Club" and ranked second after the televoting was finished. Danny is part of EMD (Erik, Matthias & Danny) and also were part of the Melodifestivalen Final in 2009 with the song "Baby goodbye". Melodifestivalen 2011 Interview with the Moniker: Probably the biggest surprise of the Melodifestivalen 2011. The Moniker came 3rd in the Grand Final with the song "Oh my God". A very pleasant upbeat song easy to sing-a-long with. There is a short interview the Team of Radio International did with the Moniker after the Friday's dress rehearsal.

 

Melodifestivalen 2011 Interview with Sanna Nielsen: One of the favourites of the Melodifestivalen 2011 reached Number 4 with the song "I'm in love" in this year's edition of Sweden's biggest show. Thus becoming the highest ranking lady of the ten competing songs. Sanna Nielsen is also known for a great ballade in the 2008 edition of Melodifestivalen called "Empty Rooms". Radio International had the great pleasure to speak to Sanna Nielsen after the dress rehearsal but also after the Grand Final of 2011 Melodifestivalen was over. Sanna disembarks now a tour of Sweden to celebrate 15 years of her singing career. 

 

Melodifestivalen 2011 Interview with Marie Serneholt (Presenter of Melodifestivalen 2011):  Marie Serneholt has been co-hosting Melodifestivalen 2011 Semi Finals, Second Chance and also the Grand Final last Saturday together with Rickard Olsson. The former A-Teens Star and musical Star (Grease) is also a singer and has participated at the Melodifestivalen preciously. The Team of Radio International had a chance of a nice interview with the beautiful Marie after the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen 2011 last Saturday. The interview was done in front of the stage. 

 

Interview with Melodifestivalen & Eurovision Song Contest Floor Manager - Henrik von Zweigberg: During her recent trip to the Melodifestivalen Semi Finals Lilian did not leave out one of the most important persons to interview when it comes to big shows such as the Melodifestivalen and the Eurovision Song Contest. Henrik is the Floor Manager of these great events and he will tell us some stories and what his job entails preparing the numerous Eurovision artists that have their three minutes of fame on the Eurovision stage.  Listen to the interview Lilian sent. 

 

Euro Friend Song Contest 2011 - Start Voting Now for Semi Final 1:  Radio International in collaboration with the Euro Friends Song Contest are in search for the ultimate Eurovision song. Eurovision Song Contest Spotlight: National Finals: The national selection season is over now. Radio International assesses the songs with a panel of Eurovision experts. This week Radio International takes a final look at the songs for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest from Azerbaijan, Russia, San Marino, Sweden and United Kingdom. For that Ross Bennett will join the team in the studio.
