The International Food Fair 2008

One of the biggest events in Expat and International calendar,  The International Food Fair will take place on  Saturday 15 November 2008 from 1200 – 1830 hour at Francois Vatel School. The International community of the Church of Our Saviour, comes together to prepare and sell their own national drinks and food dishes  to raise money for charity.

The fair is a great opportunity to travel on a world culinary tour in an afternoon with over 50 different nationalities being represented.  Each booth is decorated  in its own national colours and flags.

There are others activities as well: sale of books, entertainment, attractions for children and miscellaneous stalls, for example, the accessories stall sells unwanted jewelry, scarves and gloves donated by church members.

However,  the largest source of funds is from the raffle where local sponsors donate prizes which include, this year, a week in a luxury French villa; a weekend at a Country House hotel in Scotland and the Food-Fair 100- bottle wine rack.

Last year, the event attracted 3.000 people and raised EURO 52.000 which is helping to support 23 projects around the world in places such as Uganda, Guatemala, India, Turkey and  Cameroon.  The projected supported  range from street children education to rehabilitation of homeless people.

To help others or just for fun, it’s  worthwhile dropping  in at  the International Food Fair. It starts at noon and finishes at 1830 hours and the entrance is free. The tickets for the raffle cost EURO 2.50.
